Does anyone else here play Minecraft? If you don't know what it is, it's a sandbox game where you basically build your own world. The game looks silly, and if you're just seeing the game or reading about it you won't understand why the game is so awesome, but if you sit down and play it, you'll be sucked in for hours and hours.

It's an indie game, made by one guy. He is my hero.

So basically in the game, you start out just being plopped into a world. This world is entirely unique to your game as it's entirely randomly generated as you start the game, and continues to be randomly generated as you play and explore. Apparently the max size of the world you can make is roughly 8 times the size of earth, so basically it's infinite. My world is a huge series of somewhat small islands where I can make a boat and sail from one island (or swim if I want to be slow) to the next and create mines to try to find valuable resources. I can then use these resources to build stuff.

Yesterday I spent most of my day exploring a mine and making torches so that I can light it up so that the monsters don't spawn in there and kill me. My roommate ended up collecting enough Iron and wood so that he could build a giant underground mine cart track that lead from his main house to a secondary base halfway across the ocean.

These images aren't created by me, found them on another forum.

The game is just slightly nuts in the amount of stuff you can do/create. Hell, yesterday I needed more leather to create armor, so I built a farm near my house so that cows would spawn in it and I could go around killing them with my sword easier.

The main thing about this game that really pulls me in is that it has an amazing sense of exploration to it. If you're just sailing around the world you can easily stumble upon some big cave in the side of a mountain that you can hop into and explore. Then when you're halfway to the core of the earth and you run out of meat (for health) and torches you realize that you have to get home... and you end up wandering around aimlessly for a while because you're absolutely lost.... and if you don't make it back to your house and you die then you lose your entire inventory and you have to pretty much start over from scratch if you didn't leave some basic needs at home.

This pretty much sums up the cave experience haha.

And this one's just for lulz.

Yea, you have to pay to play online. There's a free version though, haven't looked into that one though.

I shall buy this game in a day or two. Depends on when I get around to it. I think a 20 hour trial of it should be enough. So much to explore... @_@

I'm happy with my out-dated games with blocky graphics. I don't need any of this fancy shenanigans all the whippersnappers are into these days.

I mined my way out of a cave and got lost... couldn't find my cave again. Ended up running around for two days on that island trying to find the spot I mined out from... eventually gave up and mined into a wall to hide for the third night. Got bored during the night and started mining around to try to find some redstone to make a compass. Eventually just decided to make a huge tunnel from wherever I was to my home base.

42 stone pick axes later I went up to the surface, on an island near my home.

Those compasses are amazing when you're underground.

I decided to try and fight the forces of Magma and went on a mission to rid the space under my house of the orange beast. Went down with 8 buckets and an inventory full of torches, sticks and Stone picks. The magma I tried to get rid of wasn't the source, so even though I rid the entire area of source blocks, it still continued. This led to deeper exploration. 6 hours and countless picks and torches later, with no source found, I get lost. I decided to mine my way to the surface and go from there. There were frame rate issues while I was down there so I figured I'd gone so far that it had to generate more. This was true. Popped up in the middle of the ocean. Found an island I'd been to a while ago when I got lost after I set sail.

2nd hooray for compasses?
