K, I'm sure you all saw that convenient little ad thread that popped up under Gaming Discussion yesterday. Another duplicate appeared this morning. Both are now in the Totally Awesome Off-Limits Archive of No Return, but this is starting to become a problem. I get the feeling that more of these bots are gonna be showing up, sooner rather than later. So, what do we do? Coupla ideas: -Somehow reimplement the member validation thingy -Take the NS1 approach...limit everybody of the Weed rank into one board (this way it all gathers in one board...we can also lower the requirement to the next rank if we take this approach) -Take it and deal with it as it as right now ...not the best of ideas, but that's the purpose of this thread. Any and all recommendations are welcome. |

We have a HUGE bot problem at GNF. We resolved it by having member verification. Because we've got a shoutbox on the homepage, would be members can post in there and request validation, as well as send messages to the admins in case it takes too long. It's slightly cumbersome, but the best way of doing things. For now though, seeing as we only have one bot here, we can prolly just leave it. If it gets much worse, we'll have to set up a validation of some sort. |

Yeah, I think it's fairly manageable at this point too...just nice to take some preemptive measures in case. I think the shoutbox thing would actually be a really nice implementation, whether it be for validation purposes or otherwise. Unfortunately, I know nothing about technical matters of that sort... |

I can get us a shoutbox easily enough (personally, I really like them for forums that don't have extremely booming activity), but last time we had one we got quite a few people impersonating the staff. Edit: Never mind, there's an official ZB shoutbox at the bottom of the index. Have fun. Right now, guests and validating can view but can't post; if we later reinstate the validating group, I can move some things around to let them use the shoutbox. Nice man i saw that bot the other day and posted there, glad we can nip this in the bud before it gets out of hand. Shout box is a nice touch, considering i had to wait a week to be validated to post... |
