As in accordance with the "Remaking TNZ" thread: http://tnzforums.com/topic/7164451/1/ I'd like for this to be a simple, easy to read thread where all ideas (mine and yours) for the stimulus of TNZ to be posted. Discussion, suggestion, etc. will be the norm. With that said, read on for my ideas... (hint: get ready for a long read) Winter Camp This is a little (read: big) idea I had last night. Unfortunately, by the looks of it, this'll need a thread of its own, which will be linked to when it gets posted (hopefully within the next day or so). Having said that, keep this general idea in mind: "Smash Camp...in which posting in outside forums is a major activity". Reintroduction of a Seasonal Newsletter Bringing the newsletter back will be a major factor of the stimulus. The newsletter is a great method of reminding old members that we still exist, and for all we know, they might bring aboard some of THEIR friends. The key is making this place actually sound good. For that reason, I think it would be better to start off seasonally as opposed to monthly, considering not much actually happens here in a month anyway...when activity surges though, we can alter the issuing. Make Ranks Worthwhile! The fact that we even still have a rank system now is mind boggling. What's the difference between an LM, a mod, and a regular member? COLOR. THAT'S IT. It really doesn't have to be like that though. First, I suggest that we make the process of becoming an LM more of a challenge. For example, postcount should be taken into consideration (maybe somewhere between 500-1000 posts...we can work the kinks out). Also, the rewards of ranks don't even have to be changed, but they should be made more pronounced and well-known. It might be a cheap trick for activity, but hey, it works. Open Shops Didja know that we still have gold? No? Figures, 'cause we don't use it for anything anymore. But remember older stores? Neph's and Twisted's come to mind for me personally. How about creating new ones? Maybe add rewards to mere shop owners too (like an exclusive member title). The shop owners would be able to hire workers, too, who they'd obviously have to pay. Doing this can place an emphasis on gold, and that, in turn, will inspire more productivity of our members. Reliving the Past Year: Game Nights, Live Chat, and the Wiki Game nights were a major drawing feature last summer. Having said that, it could greatly be improved. First off, a specific member should be appointed every week/other week/month/however often they'll be to head that specific game night. I also believe tourneys should receive a greater emphasis, perhaps awarding a temporary rank to the winner. Live chats were a great addition, but we never fully realized its potential. I believe the chat should always be open as something of a "gathering place" for members to just chat. However, there should also be special chats to go along with game nights, trivia, and the like. And everybody loves being part of a wiki. EVERYBODY. This ambitious project should definitely be revived, with a few changes. Only mods/admins should be able to edit articles. The exception would be member pages, which that specific member would be able to edit. Other minor tweaks, and a headstrong devotion, could make for a great Wiki. Closing Thoughts The first step, I think, would be to start sorting out who's in charge of what. Giving people orders will motivate them to actually do something. When leaders are determined, they will be edited into this thread. Also, you can pitch in ideas, too. Run 'em by me. We can all discuss it. We can edit in to the thread. We can get it done. None of this will be easy. It will take time, effort, maybe even luck. But it can be done. We care about TNZ too much to leave it like this. So we're all gonna put our best effort forward to revive what was once, and can again be, the best forum on the Internet. Thank you. |

A thought, while it's fresh in my head: In my experience, when applied to a marketplace, gold never really amounts to anything. What will happen in any forum gold economy is: someone who's good at something comes along offering that particular skill for dirt cheap or free. BAM, instant monopoly. The only way anyone can one-up that is to offer their skill for negative gold, which doesn't happen. I think the solution for gold is to have (better) individual rewards that the members can spend gold on. This will accomplish three things: 1, as mentioned earlier, members will have incentive to post more, because they have something cool to spend their gold on. 2, this will give gold more intrinsic value, making the monopoly situation above less likely. (It'll still probably happen, though.) 3, it'll function as a sink to directly remove gold from the economy. Basic economics tells us that this will increase the value of gold, thus boosting both the aforementioned benefits. The trick here, though, is not to make existing members buy back abilities that they currently have. Nor should we lock forum features that you get in most other forums just for signing up. I'm not saying that we should offer things like video games (I doubt any of us have the money for that) but if we're creative, we can think up things that nobody else has. Then we charge gold for these things. This would, in all likelihood, boost overall member activity. I think we all have those random ideas for threads that we don't start because we don't think they'd make a good thread. What we want is for those ideas to get out. Unless an idea is really, awfully stupid, a good discussion can appear out of almost any starting post. Sure, some threads will wither and die right away, but that doesn't matter as long as the good ideas are still coming through. (And you'd be getting gold for them anyway.) One more thing... If everyone's okay with it, I think it'd be in the best interest of the forum if, after implementing something like this, we wiped out all the gold and started with a clean slate. (The only problem is, I'm not sure how we'd do that without resetting everyone's postcount. We'd need a totally different gold code.) |

Gonna try and tackle that post...fun fun. I understand what you're saying about monopolies. That does seem to happen almost constantly. In fact, if we do indeed start this up, they're gonna be a given simply considering how few members we actually have right now. So I agree there. As far as rewards go...whatever happened to the ribbon system? I'll be totally honest, I don't even have a clue as to what they were even used for. Maybe we can reinvent the whole system, charging gold for ribbons and then charging ribbons for higher prizes (nothing grandiose, but exclusive things...obviously forum features like ranks, but also maybe things like cheap music downloads, cheap LPs, points cards, hell, maybe even unused registration codes for Club Nintendo). As you said, doing this will ultimately increase incentive to post. I also agree with you on the thread making thing. Albeit, I do so knowing that in all of the time I've gone to any forums, I've made maybe 10 threads total...but that can change, if not only to benefit TNZ. As for the wiping out thing...I'll leave you in charge of that, Lavos. Not because I don't wanna do work, but because I don't know shit about coding, nor economics...you do. Might as well let those who are good at something do just that. Of course, it's your call. |

Yes, I agree completely. This basically sums up just about everything I think needs to be done domestically (although if anyone has more ideas please post them). But we still need to go outside TNZ and rope people in, like I was saying in the other thread. Any ideas on this? |

Well, to summarize the idea of the Winter Camp thing. The idea would be idea all the forums from Smash Camp would participate. However, instead of random cabins, each cabin would be represented by a forum. Therefore the counselors would automatically be the counselors. However, everyone else would be shifted around like normal. So in the end, the cabin is still primarily a mix of forums. But here's the catch...each day, one activity will be to post a certain amount of times (maybe five) on your cabin's forum. In doing this, participants will "eased in" to their new forum, and mingling with other forums would be encouraged. Granted, this doesn't work JUST to benefit TNZ, but it nonetheless will do so. ...then there's always traditional methods. Scouting out NS2 and possibly GameFAQS seems like the best route to go with this method. |

Who even remembers Neph in the first place? (lol) I like the ideas with the gold, having it not just be my post count times two would be cool, perhaps giving out gold at post milestones would be better (something to work for with rank). Aswell, didn't we used to have an arcade? what ever happend to that (or i might be imagining things) because that would be a cool thing to have back, getting accnoligment for high scores and other incentives. As for game night, it would be cool to have that again yes, I will likely not be apart of them anymore because Nintendo Wifi is fail (which is really too bad) But i guess theres no stopping from using other systems (except for the lack of people having them) I would also really like to get in on the live chat/trivia thing, i sort of missed out on that last time. I would say the biggest thing to do is to figure out the gold thing, i still think that getting 2 for each post is too much I am certainly excited about the ideas, now we need to make it happen |

A) Has anybody noticed how each occasional new member leaves after a few posts? We need to stop acting crazy and saying inside jokes in every introduction thread (it isnt obligatory to post in every thread with 'oh hi' or 'oh hi again, even though i dont know you that well'), and be inclusive and receptive to all members in discussions, so they can settle in B) Honestly, considering that this is a Nintendo themed board, Nintendo has been changing alot, and we need to reflect that. More emphasis on casual games, channels, wii-ware, etc. are essential if this is still going to be a Nintendo Forum. This doesn't mean that we need to change everything, but there needs to be some changes, though franchise boards should still be around. C) Reimplementation of Gold and Ribbons could really improve activity and the quality of discussion. Edited by flamesinferno, Nov 5 2009, 11:41 PM.
