it seems that the next generation of videogames will be mostly motion controlled (yes, yes i know the Wii is already there), with Nintendo, PS, and M$ all going in that direction. Motion control has always been something that imo adds to the whole virtual reality thing, and yeah the jump to motion control offers new possiblities in games, and games genres, but it also makes companies focus time and money on "casual games". And then they make TONS of money on said casual games, because then EVERYONE wants their system because: they are reminded of their youth, and/ or offeres them some form of exercise (mental or physical). When that happens, you can kiss the days of (insert favorite game title here [as long as the game title is not a Wii____ game]). I am hoping that when Natal, and whatever the hell Sony's got going on comes out that they keep in mind that some people perfer to play games the "old fashion" way with a controller (Note: my favorite games for Wii all have GC controller option and i use it). |

I don't think the MS and Sony will go downhill to the extent that Ninty has. The HD twins have a good slew of 3rd party backers who make a lot of top tier games. I don't think they're gonna abandon those projects just for motion control. I also bet they'll include a "controller" alternative for just about any game, if not just for the relatively large "core" base (especially in comparison to Ninty). But will they go downhill to an extent? Yes they will. The lure of the money casual games provide is just too much to totally pass up. |

just as I was saying, Like Television, video games will go for a cheaper way of entertainment that will net them more profit (I do not like reality TV) |

I personally wouldn't worry too much about Sony and Microsoft. They actually have half-a-brain, and unlike Nintendo, don't seem to go out of their way to make their products not as good. Like Troy said, the motion control will probably just be an option for most games. Which is perfectly fine by me, I might even try it out depending on what game I'm playing. |

Oh i always try playing a game with the motion control, i just find that it isn't a coinsidance that my favorite Wii games I do not use the motion control. Also with what you said, I think that M$ and Sony will probably do a better job than nintendo at making the systems, and keeping their fan base |

The thing with motion control (Natal as a mega example here) is that the complexity that we require can't be found on that. Imagine playing CoD on Natal.. How would you squeeze the trigger? Switch weapons? Switch grenade types? You simply couldn't. Developers can surely see that motion control is limited. It's a fun distraction for a few years, but we'll drift back to controllers. Although that being said, I'd like motion control sometimes. Who here has watched that bit in Minority Report where Tom Cruise is playing with the menu and just gone "GIVE ME THAT NOW"? It'd be so sweet if I could be sat on my sofa, stroking my finger across the air to select different menu options (like ipod touch) and then picking up a controller and playing a game? As Troy mentioned, controllers and motion control could be optional when starting up a game, or even integrated together. A Wiimote styled controller where you can easily move your hands AAAAAAAND Natal would be incredible. You could have all the complex button presses you need, all the control stick movements and stuff, as well actually being able to hit a dude with the butt of your gun lol xD I hate typing long stuff, I always confuse myself D: |

I agree with you twisted, the technology is still too limiting, untill we can get that true 1:1 motion control (Wii Plus is close but still feels not right) then motion control in games like CoD i don't think will work that well |

That's why I ditched my Wii and DS and only play my retro systems. I don't like the virtual reality way games have headed. I don't play video games for excersize. I go outside to do that. When I play a video game, I just want to sit down and relaxe. And I really like games with good story lines, like most RPGs and games like Zelda have. It makes me feel more immersed. Unfortunately, 'casual' gamers don't want to read a chunk of text on their TV or feel any sort of emotion toward their pixelated friends... Oh well, I'm not really complaining. Less money for me to spend. Besides, I'm happy with my out-dated games with blocky graphics. I don't need any of this fancy shenanigans all the whippersnappers are into these days. |
