I never really herd about the VB. it must have been nintendo's first system.
...no the virtual boy cam out in 1995 a year before the 64 came out... to give you reference
Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's common knowledge that Nintendo's first system is the Famicon/NES. :P

Yeah, that is all why it failed. But the Wii also could've failed, main reason being gimmicky waggle. Actually, it pretty much already has failed for that reason with the larger part of the hardcore fanbase.
Well then by that logic the DS could have failed as well, but instead both the Wii and DS are doing the best... The Wii offered much more though, and at first a lot of hard core fans were excited about it, it wasn't till about after the first year or so (since brawl imo) that I and prolly others have felt that they're sorta forgetting about us. Nintendo is disappointing me, they are trying to get new people to play the Wii, but they need to remember people like us, people who got them to where they are today. The Wii was innovative, where as the Virtual Boy was, but it just never got off the ground, it was caught between generations (sorta like what Sega did, the only reason the Dreamcast [which looks like a sweet system] bever got off the ground was because Sega came out with like 3 systems in the course of 2 generations, and lost third party support, which is one of the things VB lacked, i mean VB had like 10 games)

(Wow this is the first in depth disscusion i think i have had in the forum...)

Of course, the DS could've really easily failed. Thankfully for Ninty though, it didn't.

Now then...as disappointing as the Wii is right now, I think it's gonna go one of two ways.

1) Ninty sticks to the casual throughout it all, and completely ditches us. Dropping fanboyism would be the best solution here.

2) Ninty sticks to the casual throughout the lifespan of the Wii (which will likely be a long one), slowly turning them core. By the time the next console comes out, they'll be hardcore, and Ninty will start being hardcore again as it was with N64 and GameCube, but with at least twice the customers. This is more likely, I think.

I hope that the ladder (the second one) happens, or at least they need to make like a two tier thing like i was talking about...
well here's hoping

the thing i think is nice about the DS is that yeah theres a touch screen, but for all the good games for DS the touch screen is used as like an optional control, or it just seems intuitive... for the Wii games like brawl and MKWii the motion controls are optional, or just not used at all, and imo are the best games for Wii...coincidence... I think not
(I am aware that there are other good games that use the motion controls such as LoZ:TP, BWii, and Mario Galaxy (and Mario Party 8 which is also good) but these games use the controls intuitively...)

I'm still sticking with the second approach. The Wii can be seen as kind of a "savior" for Ninty, so to speak. Look at the GameCube. The vast majority of the hardcore Ninty fanbase loved it. But it simply wasn't enough. The Cube came in last.

Ninty can't survive on the core alone in today's day and age, so they're trying to counteract it by bringing in casuals and converting them into core. Hence, I think the Wii will have a rather long lifespan, but once it's all through and through everything will be back on track.

I completely agree with your second point though.

then they are as good as dead to me... I cant believe the only company left of the original 3 is going soft, I can't and won't believe that they will just ditch us.... atleast it seems that they're heading in the right direction for handhelds...
